ABOUT LOVE.FÚTBOL
love.fútbol is a global nonprofit that has partnered with communities for nearly 20 years to co-create safe, inclusive, and sustainable sports spaces. More than building infrastructure, we provide the tools, resources, and support for communities to create and care for places where people can play, connect, and thrive.
Our mission is to partner with local leaders to plan, build, and sustain sports spaces that strengthen communities. We envision a world where every child has a safe, accessible, and inclusive place to play and realize their full potential.
Our methodology is community-driven. We partner with local leaders and residents through every stage of the process, from listening and co-design to construction and long-term stewardship. We provide the guidance, resources, and technical support, while the community shapes and sustains the space to ensure it reflects local needs and remains active for years to come.
We are a global organization with projects across five continents and in 24 countries, including Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Canada, Colombia, India, and Nigeria. Our diverse team brings together different cultures, experiences, and perspectives, helping us adapt our community-driven methodology to each local context.
The name represents the connection between passion ("love") and the game ("fútbol"). The "dot" symbolizes a meeting point that brings people together and reflects our belief that play transcends borders. Whether through sports, dance, music, or other forms of expression, shared passions create connections and bring people together.
PROJECTS & COMMUNITY MODEL
While soccer is our catalyst, our spaces are multi-use and community-designed. They are places where people come together to play flag football, volleyball, futsal, dance, and many other activities shaped by each community's unique interests and needs.
We evaluate communities based on need, partnership potential, and sustainability. We prioritize areas where access to safe play is limited, and local leaders demonstrate the commitment, organization, and capacity to take ownership of the project.
Communities can reach out to us through our website. We vet every request based on our evaluation criteria, focusing on areas with the highest need and the strongest potential for long-term community ownership.
The spaces belong to the community, not love.fútbol. We work exclusively on public or community-owned land to ensure that the pitch remains a protected and accessible asset for all residents, managed by the community themselves.
No. The sports spaces are free and open to the community. They are managed by local community leaders to ensure everyone has access to a safe, inclusive place to play, connect, and belong.
Our work doesn't end with the construction. We facilitate the creation of local committees and maintenance plans before we build, ensuring that the community has the structure to manage programming, upkeep, and long-term security.
Sustainability is integral to our methodology, not an afterthought. We work with the community to establish bylaws, maintenance plans, and revenue-generation strategies before the space is inaugurated, ensuring it serves future generations.
We don’t teach soccer or operate leagues directly. Instead, we help build the infrastructure and sustainability plans (the platform). We often collaborate with local organizations that implement ongoing sports and social programming on the pitches.
Yes, inclusivity is central to our work. We require that our partner communities commit to equal access for all, and we work actively to ensure that women, girls, and minority groups are involved in the decision-making process.
IMPACT
We monitor physical metrics like field usage, but our real impact is measured by community indicators: increased collaboration, improved access for girls, higher confidence among local leaders, and the social integration of the neighborhood.
PARTNERSHIPS & FUNDING
We have a diversified revenue base, including individual donations, corporate project sponsorships, and philanthropic grants. We work to align our social impact with the goals of partners who believe in the power of community-led play.
Yes, we often act as a bridge between the community and public entities. We help negotiate land use and official support, ensuring the space remains a protected public asset, while maintaining the community as the primary decision-maker.
Yes! We partner with purpose-driven brands to align their social investment goals with community-led development. We provide tangible, long-term impact that connects your brand with communities, fosters employee volunteerism, and builds lasting social legacies.
