The love.fútbol Toronto chapter successfully reached their goal of raising $20,000 to build the Field of Hope for the children of Penedo, Brazil. The community lacked a safe place for its children to play and now, thanks to the year-long dedication of the Field of Hope group in Toronto, a brand new soccer field will be available. This is the largest goal reached by any lovefútbol Ambassador. The group’s success demonstrates the potential of each one of us to make a difference. lovefútbol volunteers are passionate about soccer and strive to provide everyone with an equal opportunity to play. The success of the Toronto chapter is lovefútbol’s greatest example to date.
The following is a note from Tomas Bilbao and Zaynah Khanbhai, who led the “Just For Kicks” initiative to raise $20,000 to build the Field of Hope.
“We have been overwhelmed by the grassroots response to the Field of Hope in Penedo, Brazil. When we launched this initiative in February of last year, we assumed the goal of raising $20,000 without exactly knowing from whom or where we would raise it, we just knew we wanted it to be from ordinary people who wanted to make a difference. A little over a year later, around 100 friends, family and total strangers from around the world have contributed over $20,000 to this effort. What brought them together was love.fútbol's mission of empowering youth through sport and the desire to make a difference. As love.fútbol Ambassadors, we feel honored to be part of such an important mission, humbled by the support of so many and lucky to be part of such a great effort.”
