For the month of June, we want to pay tribute to two community volunteers from our projects in Foz do Iguaçu and Perdizes: Dona Maria Fagundes and Altenor Fernandes de Queiroz, respectively.  Foz do Iguaçu:

Dona Maria Fagundes is a familiar face to members of the field development project in Foz do Iguaçu—she is the wife of Aldair Fagundes, who we recently highlighted on the blog for his outstanding leadership and involvement in our organization. Like her husband, Dona Maria has been a tremendous supporter of our work in the community.

As a member of the project’s planning and execution committee, Dona Maria leads the preparation of soccer events for the children of Foz do Iguaçu. In addition, she generously provides food to all volunteers who dedicate their time to helping construct the field.

The entire love.fútbol team wants to acknowledge Dona Maria for the love and assistance she has provided to the São Francisco project community thus far. She is truly a remarkable woman!

Altenor Fernandes De Queiroz, also known as Ceará, is a respected community leader in Perdizes, having worked as a salesman in the area for thirteen years. Altenor is an avid sports fan and athlete who is committed to promoting sports education among local children. He is very involved in the Parent-Teacher Association at his daughters’ Municipal school, Fr. Egidio Carloto. In 2010, he started a “Karate Project” at the school, in which he brought in a master of the sport to teach Karate to approximately thirty students two days a week.

Altenor has played soccer with community friends each week for twelve years. His passion for the sport, in combination with his devotion to supporting healthy lifestyles in his community, made him the perfect candidate to lead our development project in Perdizes. So far, he has kept construction on track and all volunteers in great spirits. Thank you, Altenor, for all that you have done and continue to do for Perdizes!
