After battling heavy rain and flooding, love.fútbol Brasil celebrated the inauguration of the Complexo do Alemão field in front of a crowd of children, youth and adults. Children on the U-13 team proudly kicked off the event by singing the Brazilian National Anthem. Mano Silva, our Chief Operations Officer and President of love.fútbol Brasil, spearheaded the project. The community offered him a trophy as acknowledgment for love.fútbol’s role in developing the field.
“It’s a pleasure for love.fútbol to conclude this stage in our work in Brazil,” said Silva in his inauguration speech. “It looked like a war against the rain and the flooding in the field, but together we won.”
Among those who attended were local volunteers who spent months helping develop and create the field.
“People don’t think slums serve for anything,” said one volunteer who goes by the nickname PQD. “Here, we showed otherwise.”
Community children celebrated the remainder of the day by showing off soccer skills on the new field. The construction of the space serves as a source of community pride and a starting point for future community development.
In addition to the volunteers, love.fútbol would like to thank Fundação Parques e Jardins and UPP Social for their support. We would also like to thank Lucia and EDUCAP for their role as a partner in planning and executing this project.
