love.fútbol partnered with District Sports for this year’s Cherry Blossom Soccer Tournament in Washington, DC! The District Sports Cherry Blossom Soccer Tournament was created to promote community building and service, and we are grateful that District Sports chose us as the beneficiary organization for this year’s tournament. The Cherry Blossom Soccer Tournament kicked off with a party the Thursday night before as a way to get out the love.futbol message and get the community excited for the weekend. Even DC United’s Head Coach Ben Olsen dropped by - and wore a love.fútbol t-shirt, to boot!
Forty-eight coed adult teams competed on both casual and competitive levels over the course of the weekend at West Potomac Park Polo Fields near the National Mall, close to the beautiful cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin. The teams signed up with a variety of unique team names - the weekend’s winners were called “The Little Crickets!” This blogger’s personal favorite team name of the weekend? Ron Burgundy.
It was an exciting weekend of soccer, competitive or otherwise. There several penalty shoot-outs, some unexpected red cards, and fortunately, no rain in sight.
Thank you to District Sports and everyone else who helped make the Cherry Blossom Soccer Tournament a success!
