love.fútbol christened its eighth field on Sunday, in San Antonio Palopó on the shores of Lake Atitlan. With speeches from local dignitaries, the town mayor, and love.fútbol co-founder Drew Chafetz, the ceremony provided the official kick-off for the field that has been months in the making.

It was a tremendous event for love.fútbol - the culmination of a lot of hard work on the part of a number of people both in and out of Guatemala. Among the large contingent representing the organization for the ceremony were Drew, local director Jesse Sperling, and Guatemalan rep Cesar Garcia. Also on hand were a team of collaborators who will document the event in video and pictures.

From Washington, the event was attended by George Washington University student chapter head Oscar Norsworthy, and love.fútbol for All coordinator Mano Silva. That pair was among the large group that spent a long afternoon playing some soccer with the kids in the area, who were brimming with enthusiasm to get on their new field. The play started off with a girls' tournament and continued throughout the day.

Late into the afternoon, there wasn't a minute when the court was free, and it should stay that way for a very long time.

In the words of the mayor: "We have a very inclined community, but now we finally have a flat place for the kids to play."
